Hello Sarah!
I saw that you were in my hometown today (Chattanooga, TN) and was hoping for some listing of public appearances. Although I didn't get to meet you I am so happy for the people you did meet and sign autographs. Thank You so much for visiting and maybe you will consider making a public appearance here for fans in the future! Best Wishes on the upcoming season and I hope you are blessed in all you do!

Response from Coca-Cola. Maybe they should consider IRL!

Thank you for contacting The Coca-Cola Company. We appreciate the opportunity to respond and your patience while I've looked into this.

It appears that you've heard one of many rumors that circulate about who we may or may not sponsor. Most of our motorsports involvement is through the NHRA & NASCAR and drivers in those organizations.

Although I didn't find any connection, the independently-operated bottlers make many of their own marketing decisions, of which we are not always aware. With as many bottlers as there are, we simply do not have a way to know if one of them has entered into such an agreement.

If you have any additional comments or questions, please feel free to contact us again. Best wishes!

Dear Ms. Sarah Fisher,

My name is Fernando, I'm brazilian engineer and I always watch the IRL seasons by TV in Brazil. You are a excellent driver, and I'm your fan. I have two questions:
1) Do you believe that you can win Indianapolis 500 and IRL season next year?
2) Would you like to compete in Formula One?

Best regards,
Fernando

I'm pryaing for Tony Renna's family. It's very hard tolearn of the death of a driver, a few days after Kenny Brack's crash. I hope that somethimng will be done to make IRL more safer. These are the risks of this sport, but after Greg Moore, Dale Earnhardt and Tony Renna, CART, NASCAR and IRL drivers died in the last four years : it's too much

The fact that Kenny Brack is alive is a testiment to the safety of the Indy car. It is the speed that is the killer. No matter how well you design safety into the race car it will eventually be overcome by the speeds.

Speeds will also defeat the drivers reaction time. I read recently that an Indy car was tested at 232 mph. I don't have an answer but speed is one of the marketing promotions of Indy racing. If you take the speed out of Indy racing you might as well go to the road course. The dilemma is that road course racing in the USA is not a media event. NASCAR wins.

Ms. Fisher, in light of the Brack and Renna catastrophes, you drivers need to take action and DEMAND that those IRL cars be redesigned to be much safer than they are now. You have the clout to get the ball rolling. Sir Jackie Stewart got part of the job done in the 70's, now someone needs to step up to the plate to get the rest of the job done now. I think Paul Tracy is correct in his assessment of the IRL cars. They are "crap wagons."

Posted a note before I read some of your fan mail, and must say am surprised I missed seeing your rumored potential of going to Panther. Like many other fans, I see many things that point to you being short changed, in house. I'll start the rumor that you are being looked at by a very large company, who wants you to do better, and 2004 will find you "positioned" in IRL like never before. Saw you in the Midgets at Columbus, Ohio, and I think I can tell when I see a "driver". Surprising was the lack of show with the new Chevy, but am more sure than ever things are not right with the IRL car. The Texas race shows you still have the talent, but it's hard to "carry" an IRL race car. Wish sometimes I would have stayed in Road Racing, wrenching, which would have got me into CART, and to IRL. Would have been happy to be part of your team. Hope Texas was step one toward a better year in 2004.

Sure looked like you were just "hanging out" at the Texas race. Then all of a suddden you gained several spots, and not all due to pit stops by the other cars. Curious, where do you think you would have finished, if not for the caution, and the race cut short? Hope 2004 brings you a "new" in house setup.

Luv your post - no doubt we should start our emails to COKE & BURGER KING. Sarah deserves better.

C.J. Sparks - I agree with your thoughts. I appreciate that D&R hired Sarah now I hope that Sarah, if offered the opportunity, moves on to a more competitive team without looking back. This is a business and if Robbie Buhl is the mentor that Sarah says he is then he will give her his encouragement and blessing.

Even if the IRL eventually fails Sarah will get the stepping stone she deserves so she can have other options with her career in auto racing.

The IRL needs Sarah Fisher because she is a first rate act and good for the sport of motor racing.

Awesome run yesterday, Sarah. Any fan (and any potential major sponsor) can see that you run with "the big dogs" when given the right equipment. You had a great run in the middle of the race when you stayed out under yellow for track position - you were right with (actually AHEAD of) the two Penske cars until their horsepower edge began to take over. Good luck in the off season. I hope the Panther deal comes through. (I know you came up through the open-wheel ranks, but DAMN, after seeing the Brack wreck I'd seriously consider NASCAR if I were you!) --gs

Here's an interesting article from ESPN- should we be writing Coke and Burger King? A three-car Panther? The Pennzoil Panther team made it official Saturday afternoon -- as expected Tomas Scheckter is replacing Sam Hornish next season.

But Scheckter could have as many as two teammates in 2004.

Burger King and Coke are seriously considering sponsoring Sarah Fisher next year and Panther is the leading candidate to take the IRL's most popular driver if that happens.

Also, it's believed that Pennzoil is contemplating a second car for Al Unser Jr., who wants to run one more year before retiring. The two-time Indy winner will no longer be paid a $4 million salary by Tony George and won't be back for a third year with Kelley Racing.

Unser has also contacted Patrick Racing about returning to CART competition.

The rumor in the IRL paddock is that John Menard is selling his equipment to either Richcard Childress/Robby Gordon or Panther Racing but would stay on as a sponsor. Asked Saturday, Menard responded with a laugh: "Let's go with Robby Gordon. Yeah, that's what everybody thinks." Then, the billionaire lumber magnet said: "Let's just get through this season."
  October 12, 2003
Diana
Can the board help out with the rumor mill? In two days I have heard three very different quotes- the Star indicating you have no money for next year. And RPM2Day indicating some major sponsors were negotiating with Panther to bring you in to the fold as a third car. Then there's the rumor you and DRR are trying to stick together. I write your sponsors often. So should I be writing Coke?

As the year comes to a close, I find myself more frustated than last year.

Sarah...you should take pride in the way you handle yourself, in a manner that many others could not begin to be the role model that you are to many young fans. Your representation of the IRL has no doubt helped renew interest in the series. You deserve to be right up there with the top runners, able to compete with the best, with the funding and equipment it takes to succeed. You deserve the same as any other driver. You came up through the ranks just like they did, just as successful, and even more deserving considering the adversities you have had to endure. You have handled yourself in a positive, professional manner. As your fan, my support will always be with you.

Sure, the funding has been there for Sarah to participate, but I question whether the funding is there to compete. From the business side, I believe the clear objective of D&R is to make sure that the co-owner/driver is the primary driver. Unfortunately, it seems Sarah is getting short changed both financially and on the track.

Realizing this is more than just a sport, it is a business. What bothers me the most is that the "bang for the buck" has been with Sarah. In just this year, her presence in promoting the IRL far exceeds many, many other drivers.

Sarah has proven that she has the ability to compete, but obviously there are limited resources flowing to this part of the team. I find it odd that Robbie's ride continues to improve, but Sarah seems to be at a stand still. Though Sarah has sponsors on her car, where does the funding go? Is she getting her fair share?

Even more troublesome is the direction of the IRL. Just a decade ago, Tony George chose to equalize the competition so even the low-budget teams could compete. Today, it looks like we are back to square one with a few big dollar teams dominating.

Concerning sponsorship in 2004. As I talk to other IRL fans, it is apparent that women are becoming more and more interested in racing, mainly because we have someone from our side of the world to follow. Many women have caught the fever. We are the consumer watchdog for the family. It is our attention you are trying to get when advertising. Not only are we the consumer but we contribute/spend our hard earned dollars purchasing your products. It's time to fully fund Sarah in her quest to the best IRL driver she can be. Don't just use her to promote the IRL series, pay the bucks needed to let her compete with the top teams.

I got this off of the "Panther" Web site.

"This is from Curt Cavin's latest question and answer session on the IRL.

From IndyStar.com:

Question: I understand that Sarah Fisher is close to signing with Dreyer and Reinbold next year with the same GMAC/AOL backing. Is this true and does that mean she and Robbie will be in the IRL full-time in 04? (John from Indianapolis)

Answer: I flew to Texas today with Sarah Fisher and we chatted about 2004. She didn't sound very optimistic. Actually, she sounded less than that. "I don't have any money," she said."

To Sarah Fisher fans: Forget the platitudes and start writing the sponsers!!! If you wait till after the season I am sure that decisions will have already been made for 2004.

By emailing PUREX you are defaulted to the DIAL site. Interesting thing about the "PUREX" site. It only mentions the "PUREX" sponsership of Robbie Buhl and #24. No mention of Sarah. It appears that PUREX is only a one car sponser. I can see Sarah on a liquid detergent container but Robbie Buhl??? --- Doesn't do it for me. This isn't really stereotyping but just looking at the practical side of marketing. With this sponser I think women would identify with Sarah rather than with Robbie.

Hello Sarah,

I understand that you met my son this passed weekend at the SIRA go-kart races at Linton, IN. His name is Cody, he is nine, and he had won the Rookie division. He treasures his trophy that you signed. I am sorry that I didn't get to meet you as well. I had gone home with our eight-year-old daughter, Courtney, after Cody was through racing. When my husband, Troy, and Cody came home and told me they had seen you, we got on the internet to learn more about you. I was amazed when I saw that you were raised in Commercial Point. I grew up in Robtown, which is just a couple of miles south of there on SR 316. There is only a church, an old one-room school, and a couple of houses there, so I wouldn't blame you if you don't know what I am talking about. But if you do, I lived in the two-story brick farm house on the North side of the highway. I was also a Viking, but I think I had graduated before you started Kindergarten. I graduated in 1985. The junior high, where your m! om works wasn't even in operation yet. You may know my neice and nephew however, Zachary and Maggie Frank. There mother,Regina, my sister, used to be the "Ashville doctor" before she passed away some years ago. What a small world! Anyways, my question for you, is how do we get Cody hooked up with any larger sponsors? We have about eight local sponsors from Linton, but as much as we appreciate them, they don't do much for our racing budget. Cody seems to have a gift for racing and that is not just coming from the proud parents. He has caught the eye of many racers and fans. He won almost all of his races when he was in the "kid kart" division and he took the Second-Place points championship last year and the First-Place points championship this year at our local dirt oval track, Bakersfield Raceway. He has raced three races with the SIRA this year and won all three by a fine margin. His kart is legal!
We plan on keeping him in go-karts for a few more years, but eventually we would like to let him move up to Sprints. What is a good route for this? Does he need to get on a traveling circuit such as SIRA or an equivalent? Or can we just remain local and just enter him in a few events around the country? What looks best on a resume when soliciting sponsorhip? We would greatly appreciate any suggestions you could give us.

Thanks for your time and for your continued interest in go-kart racing.

I wrote "Aventis" and got back an auto response e'mail. I had asked about increasing product identification which could justify more support (sales = money) for the team. Does Sarah know that people that are her "personal guests" to races talk this way about her? maybe he is full of it. I hope so or else Sarah should be a little more selection of who she gives tickets and food to. From "Gene" on the Panther Pennzoil chat room

"Author: Gene
Date: 10-03-03 15:48

John - You must have noticed two years ago that while Scheckter was leading Indy (by the way, I don't want him as the new driver) he had to almost spin out when he was trying to lap Fisher when she was 9 laps down. Do you have SmartBlade wiper blades? Sarah is popular because she is female, and yes as the only female driver in a male dominated sport she is a novelty and for a female she has tremendous talent. She does bring fans to the IRL, but where is this most popular voting at the races? I've never seen it, and I've been to many races. Maybe people vote for her because they know her name. It would be interesting to hear the crowd if Sarah were to ever charge to the front of a race (I wasn't at Michigan last year) and compare it to Sam charging to the front.

All-in-all John, I do support Sarah and my brother and I have have met her numerous occasions through mutual friends. In fact, we were personal guests of Sarah's at Chicagoland this year. But, she just doesn't have what it takes - wheel to wheel, mile after mile, Sarah has a long way to go. And it won't be with this team." Just an FYI

Good luck to you in your next season. This one not so well again. You need to go fast and not be in the back. You know? Just suggesting. Most popular driver will be yours again, next year you try to earn it. No? You will be good announcer when you get tired to race.

Saw this today..
lets help her out!

To top it off, one of my favorite drivers in all of motor sports, Sarah Fisher, was there cheering me on. After my run, we were talking about what we could do to get her the ride at Panther Racing.

"Reno, start an e-mail campaign for me to (be hired by) Panther," she said.

I thought to myself that if we had a million e-mails sent on her behalf to the management at Panther, the ride for next season would be hers. In today’s Internet world, a million of anything is a very attainable number.

So that’s what I want all you readers to do. Take five minutes out of your life and help write the future of racing. Sarah Fisher has the talent to win the Indianapolis 500. She just needs to be with a quality team such as Panther to let her truly showcase her skill.

Go to pantherracing.com for contact information, and let’s get Sarah in the seat vacated by Sam Hornish, Jr. She is great for motor sports, and we need her in racing.

I was asked for the Pennzoil contact info - here it is http://www.pennzoil.com/penn/home/contact_forms.asp?formtype=info

I have contacted Dial in the past and will do so again....great idea. I wish the webmaster would also post a list of sponsors (current and potential) on the main page with contact info so fans could use their writing time and energy in a focused way. AOL is difficult to contact from their site. I wrote the thank them for the sponsorship and received a form letter stating they would resolve my problem in a timely fashion!

Diana -

Appreciate your effort but consider going to the Dial Corp WEB site and suggesting that increasing their support of Dreyer and Reingold and the IRL might be more in line with their marketing plans. Dial products include PUREX, DIAL, ARMOUR, CREAM, ZOUT, APPIANWAY PIZZA, COAST BAR SOAP. Sarah's name comes up a lot on the Panther WEB site and Mr Barnes sees the reaction of the die-hard fans. As far as I know Mr. Barnes has tested all the drivers under consideration to replace Sam Hornish. Dial should recognize Sarah Fisher as a great marketing opportunity.

It is a "guy thing". Look at the sponsers in NASCAR and don't you think that Sarah could do a better job pushing their products?

#5 Terry Labonte = Kelloggs
#32 Ricky Craven = TIDE
#43 Christian Fittapaldi = Cheerios
#38 Elliot Sadler = M&M
#37 Derrike Cope = Friendly's

Do you relate any of these drivers to their sponsers??

Here is a copy of an email I sent to Pennzoil as Panther's primary sponsor. I wonder if there are other sponsors that could use a letter like this- can the site let us know.....

I would encourage others to email the sponsors as well.

I am writing regarding Pennzoil's continued relationship with Panther Racing and future driver search. As a middle class woman consumer I would like to suggest Mr. Barnes and the sponsors seriously consider Sarah Fisher. My husband has been a Hornish fan- but he has spent no funds related to this team or their sponsors. Conversely, I am the one who has purchased tickets to two venues, bought extensive Fisher merchandise (which is displayed in my faculty office at a middle sized midwestern university), and purchased both vehicle and other products based upon her current sponsors. Ms Fisher is bring in a new fan base from a different economic and gender vantage than many of your current Panther Team fans. I believe her skills are yet to be proven. She is 22 years old and deserves a chance with a competent team. Her fans have stuck through 3 years of struggle in the IRL. That should say something to a sponsor as well. Thank you for your time. Professionally,

Interesting-
There are more posts on the "Panther Racing" web-site about Sarah than here.
I hope that Sarah is practicing pit entries because she can't afford to give up 3 to 5 seconds on each stop.
If the final practice was any indication of her race setup then she has a problem. I hope that is wasn't her race setup because she is now 1.1021 sec slower than the leader. The numbers are just too disappointing to show what that means in a 400 mi race.
After such a promising season last year the terrible decision (in hind-site) to go with Chev this year must have put shoe-string teams like Dreyer & Reingold in a very difficult financial position.

Sarah did much better in the second practice with 32 laps and 220.396. (Sam Hornish put in 52 laps)That still leaves .6156 sec behind the fastest car. May not sound like much but in a 400 mi race that means Sarah gets laped 7.68 times or approximately on every 52nd lap without a yellow. But there will be yellows. Assuming 3 or 4 yellows at .6156 sec slower Sarah may be only 2 or 3 laps down at the end of the race.
It is interesting to note the differences in time between Sam Hornish and Sarah in practice. Sam has an advantage in acceleration out of the pits to the S/F line which suggests that Sam has more power in his Gen IV. Sam has a tremmendous advantage in de-acceleration coming into the pits. The difference was almost 5 seconds better than Sarah and 3 seconds over Robbie. Now this is purely technique because I can't immagine that Sam has better brakes. Another indication is that Sarah's speed was almost the same thru turns 3 & 4 as it is on the back straight. This demonstrates that Sarah is probably getting the most out of what has been given her. Is it the money? Sarah deserves better!!

The first practice is over at California. The teams, Buhl & Fisher, are struggleing to catch a break. From what I witnessed at Nazareth I can imagine that Fisher's team had her car in pieces and without much enthusiasm putting it back together at the last minute so Sarah can get some practice laps in. Her result was a one lap, 77 mph practice run for the first session. Buhl was the next slowest at 219.182. This was after he put in 39 laps, more than any other driver. One would hope that in 39 laps the team could tease a few more mph out of his car. Is it the money??? Sarah deserves better!

I've been watching you for some time on t.v. from way back in the Thursday Night Thunder era of ESPN. It's very sad to so so few midget and sprint drivers in the IRL nowadays. I think you and 'little Al' are the last two. Why haven't the Fike brothers and many other long toothed bullring drivers getting their shot? It is a bad thing to see the IRL go to Japan and start doing road racing here in the States.
I long ago gave up on the idea of ever getting to Indy the 'old' way. Now, if you don't come in with, like, a billion dollar sponcership deal, no one is going to even look at you. I hate to see you used as such a media pawn for Tony George. The IRL has turned into CART!! You should say something to those money grubbing 'ride buyers' who now infest IRL and tell them to get lost!! Keep the IRL all oval and tell Tony to get dirt tracks back on the Campionship trail. Remember when 'Silver Crown' cars were call 'Champ dirt cars'?? I do. My Pop told me of the power and glory of when drivers had to prove there mettle on both surfaces. The big dirt ovals (those of 3/4 and 1 mile lengths) are dying out and being torn down to make way for stip malls and residence developments!!
I fear you will go the way of Indy roadsters and Offy engines; much loved but outdated and obsolete by todays standards. What I would not give to see you, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Steve Kinser and lots of REAL drivers jump into 33 Offy-powered roadsters and go out on the Brickyard and do battle for 500 miles witout all that computer controled crap. Real drivers drive by the seat of ther pants and not by laptop computers and traction control! Those 'others' in the IRL could NEVER compete with you or your fellow short trackers in such a race. They'd drop out before they even got to the first pitstops for sure!
I wonder if you ever get a chance to see or race midgets anymore? If you do, come on out to see the UMARA sportsman midget series. I have rebuilt a nice cream and blue '73 Edmunds midget with a 155 cid Falcon 6 cylinder engine in it and am planning to come out to Grundy County Speedway next year. I tried running with NEMA here in the notheast but was told to keep my car home because it was too slow for them. Midget clubs today want to shed all traces of their history in favor of a more 'youth-market' appeal. Maybe you'll catch me running out there and stop by to say hi. Well, enough of me being up on my soapbox. Take care, Sarah, and don't let us short track drivers become a memory to the other race fans out there.
Sincerely,
Jeff

Hi, Sarah.
Does this make sense? : Dial in a bit more front wing for the start of the race, but don't otherwise change the car's setup. This might help compensate for the dirty air you're running in when everyone is bunched up at the start. Dial it back during your first pitstop. At this point the cars should be pretty much strung out and you'll be running in generally cleaner air. No, I'm not an ungineer; I can't even spell it. :-) Best of luck for the rest of the season and many more seasons to come. Tom, in Boise, Idaho.

I HAVE CONVERTED ABOUT 12 FANS FROM NASCAR TO IRL, MOSTLY BECAUSE OF YOU. THE PERFORMANCE AT MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY IN 2002 WAS OUTSTANDING, AND IT BROUGHT MANY OF THESE FORMER STOCK CAR FANS TO THEIR SENSES!! I AM ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE MICHIGAN AUTO RACING FAN CLUB, AND I AM WORKING HARD TO TEACH FANS THAT NASCAR IS NOT THE ONLY TYPE OF RACING.

Hello Sarah,
I'm very happy for your speedy recovery, I missed you .
I watched the race at Joliet yesterday and I am a little disappointed : you may have problems with the car since you lost 6 places after the start while you have the 6th best time of the race and teammate Robbie Buhl is in the top 10. I hope you'll have best results in California and Texas. I'm with you, good luck Sarah

Looking forward to your first IRL victory!

Sam Hornish won the race and his fastest lap was 222.175 on the 17th lap. Sarah's best lap didn't occur until the 115th lap @ 223.287. She finished 2 laps down. Now although Sarah said that the focus was going to be on the setup it would be nice if Sarah's team could emphasize setup in testing and not during the race. Is it the money??? I know that Sarah was hurt for this race but I suspect that a lack of testing has been the big problem all season long. Is it the money??? If it isn't testing then someone isn't keeping good notes on tire pressures, wing settings, chassis height, etc. But you'd think Robbie Buhl could help in that catagory? I'm just frustrated as a fan and I know that Sarah must be even more frustrated.

Saw speculation on Panther's chatroom about you getting seat in the 4 car next year. If the Pennzoil marketing gurus have half a brain, you should get the seat in a heartbeat. Then Panther/RCR could put Alex Baron in "Goodwrench ?" Chevy Indycar.
