In Remembrance:  Sarah's car will carry a decal during the Toyota Indy 400 honoring the late Governor of Indiana, Frank O’Bannon.
O’Bannon died Sept. 13 in a Chicago hospital after he suffered a stroke five days earlier.
Sarah played host to the governor in May in her garage at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during practice for the 87th Indianapolis 500. In August, Sarah was asked by O’Bannon to give pace car rides at the Speedway during the National Governor’s Association annual summer meeting, which was held in Indianapolis for the first time since 1931. Sarah Fisher’s #23 GMAC/AOL Dreyer and Reinbold entry fought it’s own battles today, with Fisher finishing in 19th position.

“It was a long race, and we had some difficulties today,” lamented Fisher. “We’ve definitely had better days in racing.  This was a big track and we had some inconsistent laps due to our car setup, with the slippery surface and the varying winds. We had some push, along with the car being loose – we tweaked the tire pressure, front and back, but all we could do today was just drive the car we had.”

During the final practice session Sarah was running in the 21st position with a top speed of 215.742.

Sarah qualified with a speed of 222.599 for an 18th place starting position.  The fastest speed 226.757 was from Helio Castroneves who sits on the pole.
“We qualified actually a little better than we expected for the setup we have right now. We’re focusing primarily on race setup with the idea in mind that to win you’ll have to have one of the best cars. The Chevy Gen IV is on our side of course, on a track that can show it, so we’ll ride confidently knowing that… It’s our first time racing here so we’re really excited to get out there and race... good times, good times.”

Sarah was again running in 18th the position.  She reached speeds of 222.922.  She was able to complete 31 laps.  The car was running about the same as yesterday.  The crew made some minor changes such as wing turns and tire changes during this practice session.  The weather is a bit different than it was yesterday which has changed the track temp.  The top speed of the session was 226.186.

Sarah was scheduled to practice during the first practice session, but due to an internal engine problem she was unable to practice.  The problem was thought to be a problem with the fuel injector.  Because of this, there was a small fire.  To correct the problem Sarah's crew changed engines.  Although the team quickly made the change Sarah was only able to complete 1 lap to finish out the session.

During the afternoon practice session, Sarah was running in the 18th position with speeds of 220.396.  She was able to complete 43 laps.  The top speed was 224.629.

Pre-Race Quote
“I had hoped to spend some time beachside this coming week leading up to the race at Fontana, but we’ve got several media and fan appearances that will likely prevent that. Among those, I look forward to a great time at the SpeedZone party and the Raceway Rendezvous. Both are great chances to get the sports-savvy crowds out there in California more excited and educated on IndyCar Series racing, even amidst the other ‘race’ going on. The challenge for us now at the Toyota Indy 400 is to manage the tight spread nowadays across all the entries for time and speed. We’ve worked hard since Chicagoland to get back on line with our communication and car setup, and we hope to translate that into a good finish come September 21.”
