2004 Indianapolis 500 Race
Preview
Sarah Fisher and her new team, Kelley Racing
have already made their debut at the 2004 Indy Open Test at the
end of April. Sarah will be
back at the track on
Sunday,
May 7, Mother's Day. Of course Reba, her mother, will be on
hand to support her. Her mom
will be there, "Not only because it’s Mother’s Day, but because
she is a big supporter of my racing. All mom wants me to do is win
and that would be the biggest Mother’s Day present of all,” said
Fisher.
Sarah, the Four-time Indianapolis 500
competitor, and her mother have conveniently already celebrated
Mother’s Day. “Mom requested a ride in the IRL Experience
two-seater, and because they couldn't schedule it on opening day
we did it April 10th,” Fisher said.
The
official car name for Sarah Fisher and Team Kelley Racing will be
the
No. 39 Bryant/CAN/Dallara/Toyota/Firestone
This will be Sarah's fifth start at the Indianapolis 500.
Sarah became only the third woman in history to qualify for the
Indianapolis 500, in 2000 when she started 19th and finished 31st
after an accident. In 2001, Fisher started 15th, finished
31st due to a Lap 7 accident. In 2002, Fisher qualified
ninth, posting the fastest one and four-lap qualifying speeds by a
woman in Indianapolis 500 history. Finished 24th, four laps down
which was her best finish at Indianapolis. In 2003 Fisher
started 24th and finished 31st. She completed 14 laps before
making contact with the Turn 3 wall after engine problems.
“This
year, I am more prepared than ever for Indianapolis with Kelley
Racing as my home. The off-season has been longer, but I’ve also
done much more training. I am as fit as I have ever been and I am
feeling great about the month ahead. Kelley Racing is just like
the Kelley dealerships in Ft. Wayne - professional and first
class. As an overall business, Kelley makes sure that everything
he does is well prepared and suited the best to win. Seeing how
the guys are preparing my two cars I am even more enthusiastic
than when I first joined the team a month ago. The group Paul
Harcus has arranged for the month is experienced and highly rated.
It will also be great to
work
with Mark Weida again as my engineer. We both know our strengths
and have wonderful communication. Its time for me to have a good
race at Indianapolis,” said Fisher.
