(Indianapolis-March 20,
2003) Officially joining the Dreyer and Reinbold #23 team for the upcoming Purex/Dial
Indy 200 in Phoenix, GM and Upromise come aboard as a third significant sponsor
for Sarah Fisher’s Indy Racing League ride. GM Upromise joins Raybestos and
WeGotGear in support of Fisher’s competitive efforts on the track.
Launched in 2001, Upromise is a free service that helps hundreds of America’s
leading companies give families money back for college. Upromise members earn
rebates automatically when they shop at tens of thousands of participating
retail locations, grocery and drug stores, and restaurants. Upromise collects
the member’s rebates and helps the member invest those savings in tax-advantaged
college savings plans.
General Motors is the exclusive automotive participant with Upromise, and serves
as one of its cornerstone partners. Their combined efforts work to communicate
participating products/services to GM’s vast network of customers, and further
educate the public on the importance of college savings plans.
"It's great that GM and Upromise have stepped up to help our team get to Phoenix
this weekend and that they also share my beliefs in the importance of a college
education,” said Fisher. “Hopefully our team's association with Upromise will
raise awareness about the importance of saving for college and encourage more
families get started."
“We’re appreciative of GM Upromise’s support and their backing of our run in
Phoenix this weekend,” said Dennis Reinbold, team co-owner. “Ideally, we can
create additional exposure for GM’s “save for college’ campaign and their
generous support for families through Upromise.”
As one of the earliest supporters of this college savings service, GM has helped
Upromise enroll members and promote awareness of its mission. GM also
contributes $150 into a member’s Upromise account when the member buys or leases
a new GM car or truck.
“GM and our corporate partners in Upromise are excited that Dreyer & Reinbold
Racing and driver Sarah Fisher will spread the word about Upromise to the fans
at the Purex/Dial Indy 200 and also to a nationwide television audience watching
on ABC,” said Steve Shannon, GM executive director – marketing services. “Sarah
is one of the IndyCar Series’ most popular and most talented drivers, and her
engineering background underlines the importance of education in all walks of
life.
“Sarah is achieving her dream of competing in America’s premier open-wheel
racing series,” Shannon continued. “GM is a strong supporter of the Upromise,
which helps families realize their goals by making a college education more
affordable.”
