INDIANAPOLIS, April 8, 2002 - Indy Racing driver Sarah
Fisher and former team owner Derrick Walker have amicably agreed to end
their partnership effective immediately. Terms of the agreement were not
disclosed. Sarah drove for Walker Racing during the 2000 and 2001 Indy
Racing League seasons and had best finishes in 2001 of second place at
Miami-Homestead Speedway, a front-row start at Richmond, and her first
podium finish (3rd) at Kentucky Speedway in 2000. Sarah was also voted the
IRL's most popular driver during the 2001 season, but has been sidelined so
far in 2002 since the Walker Racing team has been unable to obtain
sponsorship for her to race in the IRL. "Derrick Walker and I have agreed to
go our separate ways," said Sarah. "During the time I was there, Walker
Racing almost became a second family for me. But we haven't been racing in
the IRL this season and that is what I need to do. I learned an enormous
amount during my time at Walker Racing and I will always be grateful to
Derrick for that." Since she first began driving in the IRL, Sarah has been
featured on numerous high-profile television shows including; The Tonight
Show with Jay Leno, Live! With Regis and Kelly, NBC Nightly News with Tom
Brokaw, ABC Evening News, CBS News this Morning, HBO's Real Sports with
Bryant Gumbel, The Other Half and Good Morning America. In addition, she has
been profiled in Sports Illustrated, People, Teen People, Cosmo Girl, ESPN
Magazine, Mademoiselle, Glamour, and Indianapolis Monthly. Sarah's exposure
also includes newspaper articles in USA Today, Indianapolis Star, New York
Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, NY Post, Miami Herald among many
others, and she has been a guest on hundreds of radio shows including the
nationally-syndicated Bob and Tom Show. Up next for Sarah will be the 26th
Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race at Long Beach, Calif. on April 13. Sarah
will be competing against 16 other pros and celebrity drivers in
identically-prepared Toyota Celica cars. |
