Sarah Finishes 15th
Sarah hung in for a 15th place finish at Texas.
Fisher was black flagged by the IRL twice in the first 50 laps after
separate reports she was spraying liquid on the track. Both stops, with
reviews by the team and the league, showed the back of the car was dry and
not leaking fluids. Nevertheless, she went down three laps with the first
stop, and lost another lap when they pulled her in again.
“This was our race to hang in there and still smile and show them that we
can get through this,” said Fisher. “It was another good job by the guys to
make everything happen."
Sarah started from the rear of the field, as league and Chevy officials
acknowledged an 8-10 mph differential between engine manufacturers. Sam
Hornish was Chevy’s top finisher in the 10th position. |

Sarah qualified 21st
Sarah qualified for a start from Row 11, 21st position with a speed of
210.915.
“It was really actually not even close to what we expected. We had a fuel
pump sensor-pressure problem that made the car run twice as rich as normal.
They called it over the radio to pull the plug on it when we exited pit road
to qualify, but for some reason they didn’t pull me off. They just let me
run, so I am kind of upset that we had all day. It rained all day, why
couldn’t they have figured it out before this? I know that we aren’t going
to run fast here because we don’t have an on-track package to put it on the
pole, but we at least want to be in contention. GMAC and AOL really put a
lot of interest into our team this year, and to go out and have little
things fail, that is just stupid. Here, with our package, we need to be able
to be in the draft. That is the only way we are going to survive. We have to
get to the end, of course, but to even be remotely close, we need to be in
the draft. Unlike some other ones we have been in, we need to finish. I am
not disappointed in the Chevy motor. I know what they have, and I know they
are working on it really hard. That is not what I am disappointed in. We
need to focus on short tracks because that is the motor that we have got. We
are really looking forward to Richmond and Pikes Peak. My engineer and I
really work together and that is our forte.” Said Sarah

“I’m excited about getting back into the regular race weekend rhythm. After
missing Texas and Colorado last year, it will be great to get both of the
Texas races back under my belt again since we have support from AOL and GMAC
to get us through the 2003 season. This will be my second full season in the
IRL, though I’ve been racing here for four years, and this will be the first
season that I’ve had the same engineer for the duration. Texas Motor
Speedway is a first-class facility, both on and off the track, and we look
forward to the close racing that our series will provide there.” Said Sarah
